Christmas Campaign: Tools for Life

Updated: Jan 17, 2023

Can you help set 29 young disabled people up for life through our Christmas campaign?

These young people are about to complete tailoring and hairdressing courses at the Rwenzori Special Needs Foundation's (RSNF) vocational training school in Fort Portal, Uganda. They want to go into business, so need to acquire the tools of their trade.

This Christmas, we would like to give sewing machines and hairdressing equipment to these students so they can start work.

There are 17 aspiring tailors alongside 12 hairdressers. A sewing machine costs £83 and hairdressing equipment costs £48. Each student contributes 10% towards the cost, which makes the items affordable, whilst giving the students a sense of ownership. The students' contribution pays for transporting the equipment.

We aim to raise £2,000 to provide sewing machines and hairdressing equipment to all RSNF's current graduates so they can start work in the new year.

RSNF has found that its students have much better chances of starting work and running successful businesses if they are given professional equipment.

RSNF teaches small-scale business enterprise management skills as part of its vocational courses, to prepare the students to start their careers. Over 80% of the school's graduates are in work.
