From Lands End to John O'Groats (...lockdown style!)

Accomplish Trustee Sue Baldock is walking the equivalent of Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Biting winds, snow, icy winds, persistent rain and localised flooding – January’s weather did not provide conditions conducive for walking! However, intrepid Sue went out every day last month and walked the equivalent of Land’s End to Tiverton – a total of 130 miles.

In her imagination, Sue left waves crashing the rugged rocks of Land’s End on New Year’s Day and headed inland, waving to Helston and Truro en route and crossing soggy Bodmin Moor. She would have passed the ruins of numerous tin and copper mines, barrows and Megalithic stones from a bygone age. Cornwall is a beautiful county whose ancient history is just beneath the surface and often peaks through. The sea is never far away and flavours the landscape.

Onwards through Launceston and Okehampton, skirting the top of Dartmoor... Sue was grateful not to be actually walking across that desolate moor in mist and rain, with the strong possibility of sinking in bog! Instead, she enjoyed imagining putting her feet up in pretty Tiverton with a hot cuppa.

The only casualty so far has been Sue’s mobile phone, which became slightly damp after walking in a downpour and has refused to work ever since.

On a more positive note, Sue has spotted winter visiting Fieldfares and Goosanders.

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged Sue so far with donations for Accomplish Children’s Trust. Just another 744 miles to go!
