Celebrating Sign Language in DR Congo

It's #SignLanguageWeek with a theme of #SignLanguageForAll. For us at Accomplish, this includes some of the poorest and most remote communities in the world, where learning sign language is literally a lifeline - enabling a deaf child to grow up accepted and able to communicate, learn, and live a happy life.

Proreso School for the Deaf in Bunia, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has 115 deaf students who are invited to bring a brother or sister with them to enrol in the same school. The sibling then learns sign language and can be the interpreter at home. There are currently over 200 children enrolled at the school.

Katherine is deaf and she comes to school with her sister Jemma who can hear. In this picture, the sisters are dressed for celebrating International Women's Day on 8 March 2021.

Please consider making a donation so that girls like Katherine can go to school and communicate with their families.
