Coronavirus Appeal

A series of devastating floods hit East Africa in May 2020.  In the Rwenzori region of Uganda, these floods have left hundreds of people displaced from their homes.  Gardens and fields have been destroyed, leaving people with no way to feed their families.  A local hospital was flooded and some of its wards were washed away.  Roads and bridges have also been destroyed.

Most people in this rural area are subsistence farmers, living a hand to mouth existence.  They rely on harvesting their crops for food, and selling any excess at markets to earn money.

RAPCD, one of Accomplish's partners in Uganda, wants to provide basic necessities to families who have been affected by the floods, as well as tools to help them to replant their gardens and fields.

The flooding in Uganda has coincided with coronavirus and lockdown, resulting in widespread hardship in an area where poverty was already biting.  Lockdown for Ugandans has meant limited transport, rising food costs and loss of income; all of this means that families have less food to eat.  Even before the flooding hit, the number of malnourished children in hospital had doubled.

Two of our partner organisations in Uganda are averting starvation by distributing food to hundreds of families during lockdown, along with soap and rehydration sachets.

Can you contribute towards our coronavirus appeal and help bring relief at this time of hardship?
